All About Conversion to Judaism

Rabbi Heidi Hoover 

Have you ever wondered why people choose to become Jewish? Do you know what the history of conversion to Judaism is? In this course, we will explore the whys, hows, whens, and whos of conversion to Judaism. Note: This is not a class for those who wish to convert, rather a class for everyone to learn about conversion.

Second and fourth Thursdays of the month, from 7-8:30 pm, starting April 12. Six sessions, $20/ session or $100 for all six.

Brooklyn History

Brooklyn historian Ron Schweiger will teach six sessions including The History of the Jews of Brooklyn, NYC’s First Airport— Floyd Bennett Field, and much more!

April 9 and 23, May 8 and 22, June 12 and 26, from 7-8:30 pm. $20/lecture or $100 for all six.

Beginner Prayer Book Hebrew

Ruth Bilé 

For those who want to be able to read prayers in Hebrew but never learned. A basic course beginning with the Aleph Bet, simple words using the prayers as your guide.

April 19 and 25, May 9 and 23, June 7 and 21, from 7-8:30 pm. $20/session, or $100 for all six, includes workbook

Additional Adult Education opportunities include the Sisterhood sponsored Brunch and Lecture Series held on monthly Shabbat mornings that are open to all. While the bagel brunch does not fulfill the definition of education, the lectures certainly do as they cover a broad spectrum of interesting and thought provoking topics. Check the Temple website for dates and topics.

Cost is $10 per Temple member and $15 per non member.

TBE Book Club is hosted by members in their homes to discuss books with Jewish themes or Jewish authors.

Torah Study of the Torah portion of the week with lively discussion and debate (and often laughter.

There are three opportunities each week: Tuesday at noon taught by Cantor Bernstein ( at PTBAS through 10/10, at TBE starting 10/17) and on Friday evenings at 7 pm or Saturday mornings at 10 am taught by Rabbi Hoover. Check the Temple website events page for the week by week schedule. Our Torah study notices (including the weekly parasha) are also posted on the Temple Facebook page.

Shiurim (Study Sessions): occasional lessons/discussions on Jewish topics. Past Shiurim have included sessions on holidays, current events, and ethical issues.Check the Temple calendar for dates.

Other opportunities include Israeli Dance led by Faigee Sash, on Monday evenings at 7:30 pm. $10 per session (first class free).

Taoist Tai Chi taught by Maggie Lee, Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm. Tuition to be arranged per student.
